Last night, Train released the official music video for their latest single, “Drive By” at 3:00 a.m. Eastern Time (8:00 UTC). Yes, the same Train that released “Hey Soul Sister” two and a half years ago. “Drive By” was released to iTunes and radio stations five weeks ago on January 10, but it has taken this much time for the video to come out. Sorry to break into you, but much like “Hey Soul Sister”, “Drive By” is likely to be its sequel in terms of radio play count and become the huge hit of the summer of 2012. Much like how “Hey Soul Sister” was everywhere two years ago, you will likely hear “Drive By” multiple times a day. Even if you are not someone who willingly listens to pop music, you are not immune to exposure to the song, as bus drivers and grocery stores often have the radio on.
The video begins with Pat Monahan (the lead singer of Train talking with someone on the phone. That person tells Pat Monahan: “You should be sorry. You’re the one who left.” Although viewership of this video is currently very low by VEVO standards, having only a thousand views even though it has been up for several hours, do not be surprised if it rockets and eventually reaches the millions, just like “Hey Soul Sister” was once small but became a huge hit. Much like Pat Monahan’s love for his lover went viral, there is a 99% chance that this video will go viral in the next few months.
In the song, Pat Monahan sings to his lover. In the chorus, he sings, “Oh, I swear to you / I’ll be there for you / This is not a drive by.”
